My Spanish Dictionary: A Journey of Learning with LexiGym

Introduction

Hello! My name is Siarhei Hinkou, and I am the creator of the LexiGym project! I want to share my exciting experience using LexiGym to learn the Spanish language. Although my experience is related to learning Spanish specifically, the LexiGym app covers many other languages—English, French, German, and many more—making it a versatile tool for learning.

Creating My Own Dictionary

When learning a new language, the right choice of resources plays a crucial role. My journey started with the use of the wonderful book "И. А. Дышлевая. Курс испанского языка для начинающих" (I. A. Dyshlevaya. Spanish Language Course for Beginners), widely known and respected in linguistic universities. It offers a comprehensive approach to mastering the Spanish language.

On my way to my goal, I needed a way to expand my vocabulary and ensure that I effectively memorize new words and phrases. This is where the LexiGym app came in handy. I created my own dictionary in Google Sheets, based on the content of the book. Then, I easily added new words and phrases to the spreadsheet, updating the dictionary in the app in just 2 clicks. To expedite the process of creating dictionaries in Google Sheets, I also used ChatGPT, which did an excellent job of handling routine tasks.

Expanding Vocabulary with Various Types of Exercises

To learn new words and phrases, I took advantage of all the training opportunities in LexiGym.

Main types of exercises:

  • Translator: A card-type training that tests your ability to match a word or phrase with its translation.
  • Word Builder: A training focused on constructing a word or phrase based on its translation.
  • Audio Translator: Similar to the Translator, this type of training challenges you to match audio words or phrases with their translation, enhancing your listening skills.
  • Audio Word Builder: A unique exercise involving building a word or phrase based on its audio, refining your pronunciation and listening skills.

Making mistakes during learning is natural, and LexiGym is designed to highlight attention to problems and errors. The app's algorithm prioritizes words/phrases based on your results, ensuring repetition and training for words that require more attention.

Over time, I noticed progress in my training sessions. Mistakes became less frequent, and exercises that initially seemed challenging became easier. Slowly but surely, my training statistics and progress in collections and the dictionary improved.

Since language learning is an endless process, my plans include adding new dictionaries to increase language knowledge. In this case, if new dictionaries contain previously learned words, LexiGym will ensure that they do not appear again until I learn new words and phrases.

Learning on the Go, Anywhere, Anytime

One of the amazing features of LexiGym is the ability to work in offline mode without access to the Internet. I could train my vocabulary in the mountains where I live, in the park near my home, or while traveling where the internet might be unavailable. This makes the app incredibly convenient. Of course, to train a lot and do it for free, you have to watch ads. But for the price of 3-4 cups of coffee per month, you can get full access without limitations and without ads. This is especially convenient when training outdoors, as I do. But here, everyone decides for themselves how they prefer to proceed.
