Introduction
Hello, my name is Siarhei Hinkou, and I am the creator of the LexiGym project! Allow me to introduce you to this language learning application. I am originally from Belarus. In 2021 I moved to Andorra, where I currently reside. My journey into the world of learning foreign languages began in school and continues to this day. As someone who values the power of language to connect people across borders and cultures, I have dedicated my experience and knowledge to creating LexiGym.
Personal Experience
Throughout my life, I have been mastering several foreign languages, including English, Spanish, and Catalan. I utilized various online courses, language schools, and self-study books along the way. Each of these resources contributed to my continually expanding linguistic arsenal.
On this journey, one crucial realization became evident – the foundation of any successful language acquisition is vocabulary. The technique of periodically reviewing new words has proven itself to be extremely effective. However, I found that the process of memorizing vocabulary can be quite labor-intensive, especially without the use of digital tools.
Lack of Flexibility
While many online language courses offer opportunities for learning vocabulary, not all of them provide specific flexibility. Learners are often restricted to the use of a particular dictionary provided by these platforms. What if, like me, you are learning a language from several sources? For instance, you may be studying with a tutor and independently using a textbook, each offering its unique vocabulary and teaching method. I found that this is a common problem among those learning foreign languages.
Dictionary Transfer Issue
Some services offer the convenience of creating personal dictionaries, allowing learners to customize their vocabulary. However, there is a significant problem when you decide to switch from one service to another. Transferring or migrating dictionaries can be challenging and sometimes simply impossible. You are left with no choice but to create your dictionaries anew, and this can be very frustrating.
Idea Behind Creating LexiGym
I believe the best approach is to keep your dictionaries at your fingertips and have the ability to easily update them as you progress in your language learning journey. Google Sheets are excellent for this purpose, allowing you to store dictionaries, update them easily, and even share them with friends or classmates.
Also, modern smartphones have become incredibly smart, thanks to advancements in artificial intelligence (AI). They can generate speech from text without the need for an internet connection. This feature is primarily designed for universal access but can also be used for language learning. Your phone can become your personal language tutor, assisting you with pronunciation, a key aspect of language learning.
Add training sessions to this mix, and you get a unique solution - LexiGym.
Creating Dictionaries with AI
Furthermore, artificial intelligence technology can help you create dictionaries in Google Sheets by extracting information from textbooks and tutor notes. This feature is invaluable in the modern digital era and can save a lot of time compared to the routine of creating dictionaries.
Your Companion
LexiGym is not just another online language course. It is more like a companion on your language learning journey. It will help you practice and improve your vocabulary using materials you selected from various sources. With LexiGym, your dictionaries can be easily uploaded from Google Sheets, and you can make full use of your smartphone's potential for studying them.
Creating LexiGym is the result of my desire to make the language learning process as effective and enjoyable as possible. I believe we have taken significant steps toward achieving this goal, but I also understand that there is always room for improvement. LexiGym is not just an application; it is a tool that can continuously evolve based on feedback and the needs of our users.
I am confident that with LexiGym, your potential in language learning will be significantly expanded.
Thank you for your attention,
